Master of Horror - Mick Garris - Chocolate - 2006

I'd love to say that I enjoyed this one, but I didn't. It's not a horror movie, unless you think something like Fatal Attraction is horror. I don't. Its psychological thriller, with a heavy dose of chick flick. And that's what this one is. This is all about a lonely guy, and how women think they act. I know that it says that Mick Garris wrote this episode himself, but I think he was channeling Danielle Steele.

I had more notes on this, but I can't find them, so this will be pretty short. I know that there were the same set of extras, including a commentary that was not bad, but I just couldn't get into the story, no matter what Mick said.

Masters of Horror - Don Coscarelli - Incident On and Off a Mountain Road - 2005

Now this is more like it. A true horror movie, with a new, novel bad guy. If this had been Feature picture, MoonFace would be up there with Michael Myers and Jason. And there's Agnus Scrimm! My hero! And he's playing a fun, cheerful crazy guy. Gotta love that.

But I do have a couple complaints. First off, there's too much of that "shakey" steady cam. Cameras zipping around, rack focus, tilted angles, all that MTV/Blair Witch stuff. I hate it. It gives me a headache, and keeps me from see the gore.

And there are some good graphic scenes. A couple of real nice intense moments. But we would expect nothing less from the man who invented the Ball.

There are two commentaries, one with Don and writer Stephen Romero and the DVD producer Perry Martin (fufilling the role of Mike Varney). The second commentary is with Don and the original arthur Joe R. Lansdale (who was also the writer of the original story that Bubba Ho-tep is based on).

Three beers out of five.
