Yet more Punk Rock Action!

Desperate Teenage Lovedolls - 1984

Ahh, the wonders of shot on video. Hmmm, lets see if we can guess what the video source is. 16mm? S-VHS? No, according to the commentary, is Super8! Wow. No wonder they could make this movie for only $250 in 1984. That was the cost for 8mm film and development at the local drug store. See, there are some good things to come out of the digital revolution. Now, crappy video is at least clear. And no embarrassing trips down to CVS!

This is a movie utilizing all the local Punk rock musicians, about a fictitious all-girl punk band. Unlike Live Freaky, Die Freaky, I have, at least, heard of Black Flag. You'd think that musicians who are on stage all the time, and very animated there, could act their way out of paperbag. Seriously, the dialogue is delivered with all the conviction of a Jr. High School (Middle School for some) play. It is LaughOutLoud funny.

Lip Sync - what Lip Sync?
Talent - what talent?

This disc is a real mixed bag too. The image is terrible, fuzzy and dimly lit. The sound is muddy and inaudible at times, blaring at others. Oh, and stealing tunes from the Brady Bunch is a touch of genius. There are no subs, and we really needed them. There are, however, a bunch of other extras. There's a talking head featurette on the history of the movie and its makers. There's a reel of outtakes, which includes (I know you're gonna find this hard to believe) entire scenes even MORE out of focus than the movie. And there's a commentary.

And the movie's short. IMDB says that its 60 minutes, but that’s a lie. On my DVD player, it said 48:15 when the credits started to roll. Also, there's no nudity. How can you make a movie about an all girl band without any breasts showing. Still, when people talk about movies that are so bad they're good, they are talking about this movie. I laughed my ass off. Just don't expect production values. Oh, and the music was piss poor too.

Two beers out of five (saved from a one by my laughing at how bad it was)
