Save the Green Planet - 2003
Well, the preview for this is a lot wilder than the movie. Not that the movie was bad, mind you. It just wasn't nearly as cool as I thought it would be. Truth to tell, if it wasn't for the ending, I'd probably have been more upset. But the very ending (which I will NOT reveal, no matter how much you torture me, so put those red-hot pokers down) is such a cavalcade of emotions that it almost makes up for the rest of the movie kinda being a no-show.
I mean, I'm used to Korean movies being really over the top. See my review of Oldboy way above. And the plot of this flick certainly had plenty of room for lots of graphic torture. Too bad they didn't show us anything. And the trailer has this awesome Kung-Fu fight. Too bad that everything in the trailer is all there is in the movie. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen the fight scene. I HATE that!
There are several very nice featurettes on this disc. I was pleasantly surprised that the making of and interviews were all subtitled as well. And yes, for those of you who refuse to read, you'll have to pass on this, as there's no English audio track. It’s Korean with English subtitles. But even the Deleted scenes are sub'd, so all the extras are accessible, which is nice. There's some interesting stuff in the making of, lots of details about finding locations and such. Guess its more interesting to me since it’s in a foreign country.
The image and the sound are very good. My only real complaint about this movie is that it didn't live up to my expectations. Not a high crime, but still.
Three beers out of five (more gore or some boobies would have helped this A LOT!)
