Week of Oct 15 through Oct 21

Eastern Horror-Magic of the Universe – no IMDB entry

You know you’re in for fun when we start off eating monkey brains. And what the hell is that rabbit-thing with a TV in its belly? This is a serious WTF movie. And as you surely know by now, I LOVE WTF movies. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say that if you know of a great WTF movie I have not talked about, let me know. I’ll move it to the top of my queue.

Fort Doom – 2004 aka Devil’s Raiders

Debbie Rochon! As the madam of a Wild West brothel. Gotta love that! And a serial killer in the old west. OMG, zombie confederates. Oh, they’re not really zombies, their drug addicts.

The acting is a little odd and not nearly enough nudity considering THEY’RE PROSTITUES for godsake! That said, this is an excellent little movie, with original, unique plot.

British Day - Crypt of Terror
Land of the Minotaur – 1976

Donald Pleasance gets higher billing than Peter Cushing? What bizarre world is this? And the ending is bizarre too. God blows the bad guys up. Don’t see THAT too often.

Terror – 1978

From the Director of Inseminoid (aka Horror Planet). And a story that makes absolutely no damn sense whatsoever. In fact, you know you’ve watched a bad movie when the highlight is realizing that the mechanic is Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca from Star Wars.

This is one of those stupid movies where the final reveal is interesting, but if you think back at the previous deaths, you’ll realize it doesn’t work. I don’t know if it’s David McGillivray’s script or Moira Young’s story (but looking at the number of credits of each, I suspect it’s Moira’s fault).

Mexican Day
Black Pit of Dr. M – 1959

How sad is it when the Mexican movies are better than the British. Also, it’s funny that this movie apologizes for the soundtrack at the beginning. Usually it’s the print quality. But there’s nothing wrong with either, that I can see or hear.

The cinematography is great! And acting is very good. But I’m surprised that it’s a morality tale. And finally, I’m confused, because I didn’t see any pit.

Commentary by Frank Coleman (IVTV founder). This movie is good, but not as gushingly good as this guy says. He’s almost as bad as the guy from the commentary of Stage Coach.

Two other major extras; a continuity script for the lost English version, and a concept – proto music video that was FAR TOO avant-garde for me.

Mexican Festival Continues
The Brainiac – 1962 – aka The Baron of Terror

This is one wacky, psychotropic unintentionally funny movie. It is just SOOO bizarre. Brains in a sherbet dish?

Commentary by Kerb Pheller. Lots of historical info as well as gushing over how funny this flick is.

Spanish Day
99.9 – 1997

Haunted house story with LOTS of differences. Moody and atmospheric, with interesting looking characters who are NOT all beautiful. It’s pretty slow at the start, but it builds. Alas, the ending is pretty unsatisfactory.

Left in Darkness – 2006

Far too short an appearance of Tim Thomerson. He does come back at the end, however, there’s never enough unless it’s Trancers or Dollman. Director was First Asst. Camera on Babylon 5.

Ohhh dear, drugged and gang raped at a frat party. How tacky. And what a cheapass frat, they’re drink Schlitz beer. I know folks who live in mobile homes who wouldn’t drink that swill.

The movie has some original ideas. Too bad I dislike every single soul in this flick. Great audio effects, though.

My folks are here this weekend, so I got started late. There’s a commentary track, but I was too tired to listen to it. Sorry, man.
