Before we get to the movie, I should apologize to those who actually read this, that I am very behind here. Work and personal life are sucking the joy out of life, and I just haven’t felt like writing. I have all my notes, however, so I will catch up. Hopefully, I’ll be in a better mood soon, and catch up. Thanx for your patience.

The Other Hell – 1980

Exploitation is such a a successful genre, that it has spawned many sub-genres. Some of my favorites are sexploitation, blacsploitation, WIP, nazisploitation, and the category that today’s movie belongs to, NUNSPLOITATION!  This subgenre was a
product almost exclusively of the Italians (wonder why?), and today’s flick is no exception. Bruno Mattei directed and wrote this puppy. In looking up his filmography, I was shocked to see how many of his movies I have. Out of the 81 movies in his IMDB entry spanning more years than I’ve been alive (’52 to present), I own 13. Amazing considering that most of his flicks haven’t even been translated or released in this country.

And in case you are thinking that it’s just the director who you’ve seen stuff by, that young priest should look familiar. That’s Carlo De Mejo. And he’s very popular with all my favorite Italian directors. He’s worked for Fulci, Mattei, and Franco. He’s been in House by the Cemetery, Gates of Hell, Contamination, and Women’s Prison Massacre.

Part of this soundtrack should sound very familiar for all you Italian horror fans, as it’s a part of Goblin’s soundtrack for Beyond the Darkness (buio omega) by Joe D’ Armato.

There are some questions that arise while watching this movie:
  1. What’s with the faceless nun?

  2. Do many Nunneries has an autopsy room in the cellar?

There are no subtitles or commentaries on this disc. Extras are limited to a interview (which DOES have subtitles) with Bruno and Carlo De Mejo.

Three beers out of five.
