Animals Gone Wild, Gridler-style, Part I

Something Is Out There – 1977 – aka Day of the Animals

Wow, what a cast! The husband and wife team of Christopher George and Lynda Day George, Leisle Neilsen (before Airplane and Police Squad made him a comedian), Michael Ansara (again – was just in the Time Tunnel episode Secret Weapon as Colonel Hruda), and Andrew Stevens, who would go on to destroy arabs at a carnival in The Fury).

Interestingly, there are two versions on this disc. A theatrical release and the TV version. The TV version has a commentary, and so I wanted the theatrical version first, thinking it was a longer, uncut version. There is only a two minute version, and most of that appears to be a blank, black screen at the beginning. Otherwise, the only difference I could see was that the theatrical version has an absolute terrible picture! Hideous!

So after watching the theatrical version, I watch the TV version while listening to the commentary, which has several cast and crew members, including Lynda Day George. Except that the audio of the commentary is even worse than the video in the theatrical version. I mean seriously, every podcast I listen to has better audio. Couldn’t they have someone bring decent mikes, and set them up correctly? Sheesh!

The film is lots of fun, however. It’s great to see Christopher George in anything. I’ve liked him since I first saw Gates of Hell. And what a treat to see Leisle Neilsen as an asshole. And a murderer, and a rapist.

There are no other extras on this disc, and no subtitles, so that’s too bad. And no nudity to help out.
