Alien Abduction – 2005
Here’s another movie that I don’t know how it got on my list. However, unlike some others where I ended up regretting them getting in the queue, this one turned out to be a pleasant (if unpleasant, but you’ll understand what I mean in a bit) surprise.
First off, I have to say that the first 10 minutes really irritated me. Before we were 10 minutes in, I hated all 4 of the main characters. Of course, right when I was getting good and pissed at the movie, it does an utter right turn, and suddenly becomes this grimy, disgusting gore fest that both confuses and disturbs. I mean, there’s nothing like a surreal view of an alien pulling out guts while the victim writhes in pain.
Now here’s the weird part. I’ve seen dozens of movies where entrails are pulled from the chest cavity. Hell, it’s a convention of the zombie genre. But for some reason, it was more disturbing in this movie. I guess it was just the soundtrack and the way it was shot, but it was very affective. And the ending was clever, and not expected, so it’s a pretty good little flick.
No subtitles, but there was a behind the scenes featurette that didn’t show much, but had a few comments by each of the actors. And there’s a commentary. I’ve heard a lot of commentaries where the director was TOO fond of the movie. But this one was over the top. It’s like these guys were watching a different movie. And I liked the movie. But these guys were really over the top. A one point they talk about how funny the movie is, and refer to it as comedic. What?!? I don’t remember laughing even once. I didn’t even think, while watching it, that they were trying to be funny. So I have no idea what the director/writer is talking about.
However, for $600K and in 11 days, this is one heck of a flick. Lots of good performances, a couple of nice titties, and an invasion flick done in a way that I haven’t seen a hundred times before.
