12 Monkeys – 1995
I got this movie cheap from DeepDiscountDVD, and haven’t seen it in awhile, so into the rotation it went. And it was as enjoyable as I remembered. First off, you gotta love the whole idea of another Terry Gilliam time travel movie. His “Brazil-like” future, the humor of being sent to the wrong time repeatedly, Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt both prove that they have acting chops. It’s all good.
This disc had subtitles, which helped me smooth out a few things I hadn’t understood from watching it on VHS so many years ago. Plus, it has a commentary by Gilliam himself, which is good too. It’s a good blend of technical tidbits, actor ruminations, and Terry just waxing philosophical about life, movie making, and everything.
This movie also drove home once again a point that I don’t think I’ve mentioned here yet. I believe, and many movies support this, that most of the problems that people have are caused by their inability or unwillingness to just f’ing TALK TO ONE ANOTHER! No one ever says what they’ve seen, what they’ve done, what they are feeling.
Four beers out of five.
