House of the Dead 2 – 2005

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Why would Dirkmaster watch this movie, when the first one was so bad? First off, that’s just the kind of challenge I live for. Secondly, as most of you know who’ve been reading this blog with any regularity, I am trying to collect every zombie movie ever made. I know of 214 at present and own 127.  So I had to get this and watch it, no matter what.

And you know what? I liked this one better than the first. I liked the idea of looking for a zero generation zombie. I liked the fact that the hero’s didn’t just fail in the end, but kept succeeding and then failing over and over again.

IMDB says that this is a TV Movie. I say this must be a mistake. There is WAY too much cussin’ and nudity for this to be a TV Movie. The only folks who could show this would be Showtime or HBO.

The worst part of this movie is the ending. One cruise missile, some fake computer fire, and supposedly a campus is destroyed? Pathetic.

We did have some nice deleted scenes, and a making of featurette. There were subtitles (again, what TV Movie has those?), and a commentary by the director with the writer/producer. It was pretty good, but short on the kind of details about the shoot that I’d like. Too much about the audition process. Still, it wasn’t nearly as boring as some others I’ve listened to recently.

Three beers out of five.
