Satan’s Blood – 1977

This may be the first movie released by Mondo Macabro that I didn’t like. It was dull (except in a couple of places) and predictable. We were half way into in and nothing interesting had happened. Finally, a swinging party perked my interest up, and was pretty well done. Then, there was an abortive attempt at some lez action. But at least it’s not boring any more.

Ahh, but we spoke too soon. After a tentative excursion into the realms of interesting, the movie immediately retreats into boresville again. And the hero’s are too stupid to live. Which happily, they don’t. And who didn’t see that ending coming about 20 minutes away.

This movie is sort of the retarded stepchild of Rosemary’s Baby and The Amityville Horror.  I sure am glad I only rented it.

There are two extra features here. One is a text history of Spanish horror that was short and shallow. Then there was a documentary on Satanism that’s probably the highlight of the disc. Pretty sad that an extra is the best thing on a disc.

Midnight Blue: Celebrities – 1977

Once again, we have clips from the NYC cable access program put on by Screw Magazine in the seventies and eighties. Sometimes, the commercials for escorts, massages, and swinger’s clubs are more interesting than the interviews. There’s a wide variety here.

The interview with Russ Meyer was interesting. The OJ Simpson interview during the Hooker’s Ball in San Francisco was classic. The Tiny Tim Interview was disturbing. Penn and Teller obviously had a good time. The California Governor Terminator was dull and creepy. As was Debbie Harry.

The popup comments are definitely the best part. They are consistently funny.

And there’s a lot of natural breast being exposed, so that’s always good.

Three beers out of five (not as good as some of the earlier episodes
