Saw 2 – 2005
I have to admit that I went into this movie with very low expectations. Let’s be frank, with the exception of Empire Strikes Back and Wrath of Khan, sequels suck. I am happy to report that this movie pleasantly surprised me. There is an excellent twist at the end that I didn’t expect, and I caught two of the three references to Last House On The Left. And if you haven’t seen Wes Craven’s first flick, you own it to yourself to see it. Be forewarned, it’s a rough one. However, it’s important to see from where we’ve come, and it has influenced a lot of movies.
Anywho, back to Saw 2. It is very well done, and I love Tobin Bell (the guy who plays Jigsaw). He is awesome. So much menace in just a look. This movie does, however, have too many jump cuts, so all is not sweetness and light.
There are subtitles and a cast and crew commentary that isn’t the greatest ever recorded, but isn’t the dullest either. There are some other extras that I was just too tired to watch, I’ll admit.
Three beers out of five (which is pretty damn good for a sequel, I’d say)
