The Gingerdead Man - 2005

Yeah, I know, its sad. Even though I have a life, a wife and two kids, I still got in at least one bad movie before heading out to ring in the new year. And what a painful flick it is. But first, a little history.

I live in a suburb of Dallas, and so this fall the wife and I got to go to a Full Moon Road Show, where I got to meet (EXTREMELY BRIEFLY) Charles Band. I have a HUGE amount of respect for this guy. He has created several very good franchises, and several hundred B-movies. I love them, and got several DVDs I'd been looking for at a great price (but no toys, I can't afford to collect anything else beside movies). And while there, we saw a trailer for The Gingerdead Man, and Charlie talked about the problems making this movie. So I was pretty excited to see this movie, when it finally came out.

Unfortunately, Charlie Band's return to movie making has not been something his fans can derive much joy from. First off, this movie really shouldn't be considered a full length feature. Its exactly 60 minutes, and gets its 71 minute running time by having the slowest credit crawl I have ever seen. It was so slow, even my wife noticed and laughed.

Otherwise the movie is pretty pedantic. Its like a poor man's Chucky, without the really clever witicisms. No subs, no commentary, but a good making of feature that shows that ALL the money this movie cost (and it wasn't much) went into the special effects, and they were pretty clever. There was a lot more to it than you'd think while watching the movie.

One beer out of 5. Take a shot every time you hear Gary Busey's voice, and you might like it before the end.

Pretty short tonight, cause we gotta go out and party! Happy New Year, everyone.
