Well, just to prove that I'm going to hell, tonight I'm watching a double header, Silent Night, Deadly Night, Parts 1 & 2. The Anchor Bay copy of Silent Night, Deadly Night 1 is a composite so that it is the most complete. It has a not more gore than I remember from the old VHS version. Just what the world needs, a slasher Santa with lots of gore. Its not a bad flick, especially if you like gore. Part two is justly reviled as mostly a rehash of Part 1. No gore, but a high body count. The only saving grace is the commentary (Part One had no extras except a radio/telephone interview with the Director that was so poorly recorded I had to stop listening). In the commentary for Part 2, the directory, writer, and one of the main actors rightly rip it as a piece of cheap tripe. They admit that they were asked to just recut Part one, because it evidently had been pulled from many theaters. Instead they shot about 30 minutes of new footage, and created a half ass movie. They also admit that this is a quickie, and boy, does it ever show!
Part One gets 3 out of five beers, thanx to some gore. Part 2 only gets 1.
