Raiders of the Damned - 2005

WOW! The CG in this movie is REALLY cheap. And the dialogue is childish. This movie reminds me a lot of that cheap War of the Worlds by David Michael Latt with C. Thomas Howell.

Commentary with director Milko Davis and executive producer Sandra Davis. Like many bad commentaries, this one is SO self-congratulatory. Which is pretty pathetic since it's so crappy. You know it's sad when the director says "Ah, yes, the spoon. It became a major character". LOL, yeah, and it's the best actor.

And just to really put the icing on the cake, a DOG comes in. Send the dog out, assholes. No one wants to hear it bark in a commentary. That's just as professional as the rest of the movie.

Fido - 2006

Real nice recreation of the 50's, but with a Zombie War instead of WWII, and now we have zombie slaves. And the titled zombie Fido, is actually professional comic Billy Connolly. He does a great job of emoting without speaking a word, and really minimal facial expressions.

Ouch! $8M budget, theater gross only$298K. And that's too bad, because it's very clever and very nice. It's Leave It To Beaver, with zombie slaves.

Commentary has director , Producer , and actor (Mrs Robinson). Some tech, some behind the scenes, it's a fair commentary, but kinda dull.

Other extras include Making of Fido: isn't really a making of, it's just interviews with cast. Blooper Reel, short but nice. Select Scene Audio commentary by composer Don MacDonald. this was a unique and very educational feature (not the whole movie, just select scenes). There's a lot more to scoring than you'd think. Very interesting. And deleted scenes with director commentary. This too was more interesting than the main commentary.

Buddha's Palm - 2006

Like Wind & Storm, this must be another Chinese TV miniseries smashed down into 90 minutes. Too many flashbacks to be comprehensible. Plus too many of the characters look similar, and have names like "brother". Special effects and wirework are fun, as the great choreography on the swordplay. Two discs for 1 movie, with no extras whatsoever. There are like 4 language tracks. There is an English audio track, and subtitles. It's funny to see the differences.

No sure this was worth the wait for the second disc, though.

Captivity - 2007

Larry Cohen wrote the story and screenplay. And the main girl is Elisha Cuthbert, who plays Kim Baur in 24. This was not nearly as bad as I expected. There are thriller elements here that help it a lot.

Extras include: Making Of - more technical than usual for a making of, and it's a true making of for a change. On The Set, a detailed exploration of the setting up & shooting of some scenes. This was real interesting too. And Deleted Scenes, none will be missed.

Elvira's Movie Macabre Double Feature
Frankenstein's Castle of Freaks - 1974

I've seen this, and this print is in terrible shape. Bad jumps, scratches, etc. It doesn't look like they even tried to clean it up. Was this taken from a VHS master? The best thing is seeing Michael Dunn (Dr. Loveless from the Wild Wild West TV show).

And the Elvira comments are pretty lame. Did we really think she was hot once? Or funny? Man, am I ashamed.

Count Dracula's Great Love - 1972

Oh boy, Paul Naschy as Dracula. Too bad this is duller than dishwater. And they dubbed Paul's voice, and it doesn't match at all. Elvira doesn't even look like herself. It's like someone trying to play her. And if possible, her dialogue is even stupider.

The Witching Hour - 2006

This movie doesn't have an IMDB entry, so I know very little about it. It appears to be French, there's no English audio track or commentary. WTF? Some kind of foreign gangsta flick.

The scene with all the wacko's eating is mind-numbingly insipid. The whole this is incomprehensible, and what you do understand is stupid. Not nearly enough gore, and no boobies!

Okay, so once they get to the disco, there's enough gore. And towards the end, some nice fake boobies. Still not enough to save this flick.

Only extra is a deleted/extended scenes. Don't bother, it's not good enough to be interesting, and not bad enough to MSTIE.
