Adventures of Brisco County Jr - Disc 4, con't.

A.K.A. Kansas
LOL "What's up, Doc?"

Disc 5
Bounty Hunter's Convention
LOL! I love Brisco's dialogue with Comet (the horse). "Mentally, you've thrown a shoe"

Fountain of Youth
WOW! That wasn't expected. Nice that a TV can surprise me every once in a while.

Hard Rock
Hehe, Sheriff is Elvis, Drive-thru is invented, and the episode is FULL of Elvis song references. Fun, fun, fun.

Brooklyn Dodgers
Nice, but a little weak.

Adventures of Brisco County Jr, Disc 6
Bye Bly
Bly set free, and two (count them two) endings.

Ned Zed
Metal man and a machinery Gun. LOL "That horse is amazing". "Not THAT amazing, it took him 2 trys"

Stagecoach
Timothy Leary! And her name is Emme Steed. hehe. Isn't that the girl from the Avengers? Well, sorta. She was Emma Peel, and HE was John Steed. So this character is a merging, I guess.

Adventures of Brisco County Jr, Disc 6, con't.
Wildcard
LOL! "Hello, Dolly". Shades of the Godfather. Hehe

Disc 7
And Baby Makes Three
LOL "Stay away from my nuts"

Bad Luck Betty
Hey, that's the Psycho house! I've seen that. Torn down now, alas. LOL Psycho shower scene satire. Very very nice. And this city would have made the perfect location for the second season. Too bad that never happened.

Adventures of Brisco County Jr, Disc 7, con't.
High Treason, Part 1
Terry Bradshaw, of Fox Football fame. Could Terry be a more wooden actor?
Alright, the return of Sheriff Elvis, and more John Astin - they're pulling out all the stops! And Whip. Whee!

High Treason, Part 2
LOL - Terry Bradshaw drawing foolball play in the dirt, and then they all go "Break!". LOL - Led Zepplin, Stairway to Heaven, good year. Very nice.

Very nice conclusion to an excellent series. This was very enjoyable.

Disc 8
All Special Features.
Brisco's Book of Coming Things
journal entries w/ video clips from show of all the inventions.

History of Brisco County, Jr
Cast interviews. I missed the Duncan Doughnuts reference. Very nice.

Tools of the Trade
Articles about aspects of the show

A Reading From the Book of Bruce
Bruce reading the chapter about Brisco from his first book (that I have) "If Chins Could Kill"

The Writer's Room
Discussion among the writers, directors, and producers in a single room. Pretty interesting.

Pumpkin 3, Ashes to Ashes - 2006

Subtitles, without commentary. Once again, I didn't realize that this was a SciFi Channel movie. Shit. But hey, it's got both Lance Henrikson AND Doug Bradley (Pinhead!). Written and directed by Jake West (man who gave us Razor Blade Smile). Some fair gore. CG is pretty cheesy at points, especially with Pumpkinhead. When he's a guy in a suit or animatronics, it's great. When it's computer generated, it's cheap. Soundtrack and folley is good, though.

Late in act 2, it starts to drag. And act 3 jumps the shark. Which is hard to do in a monster movie.

Superstition - 1982 - aka The Witch
No subs, no commentary. Ahhh, I love 80's horror movies. They have a look, feel, and sound that are unmistakeable. And a predictablity that never fails. I love 'em.

This was directed by James Roberson, who was mostly known as a Cinematographer (17 movies, 14 TV), only this and 1 other movie directed, and this was the last.

Twitchy legs after violent death. Nice touch.

No extras whatsoever. Remember, trailers do not count.

Vampire Wars, Battle For the Universe - 2005 TV Movie

No subs, no commentary. Michael DeLuise (son of Dom) and Michael Ironside!!!! And Dominic Zamprogna, who was just in It Waits! a couple of weeks ago.

This would have made a good pilot. Lots of places for it to go, not too expensive. Calling a race of vampires Vorhees is funny. (For those not up on such things [what are you doing reading this, then?], Vorhess is Jason of Friday the 13th fame's last name).

IMDB has the perfect summary of this movie. "Intergalactic vampire hunters. "Buffy" meets "Star Trek" ina "Mad Max" world.

Audio censoring?!? Are you kidding me? But overall, this was better than I expected, and better than a TV movie from SciFi has been in the past.

And there was even an couple of extras; a nice Making of that was pretty interesting, a Behind the Scenes featurettes with lots of interviews and info (18 day shoot). A little too self-congratulatory for me, but not too bad.

History Channel's Decoding the Past: Secrets of Kabbalah

I've studied some Jewish mystism, so I was interested to see what this said. Interestingly, it's a historical look at the history of the Kabbalah (which I learned I was misprouncing). This is an excellent work, solid historical scholarship, and interesting concepts. Hebrew words themselves are the mechanics of creation.

The Zohar - mystic text untranslated as yet (in Aremaic) that includes ideas such as reincarnation. In Judaism? How bizarre. And it has "divine sparks", which strikes me as shades of Scientology.

And I certainly didn't know anything about a manic/depressive messiah in 1666. Fascinating. And the origins of Hassidic Jews.

Bonus interviews include talks about using language to deconstruct modern consciousness. Evil is the debris left from the construction of the universe (an interesting concept!). These interviews touch on so many cool concepts, this may be the best part of the disc.

Grindhouse Two-fer from Blue Underground
Fight For Your Life - 1977

No subs, but a commentary. This movie has been in my wishlist forever. Pure grindhouse.

William Sanderson! His second role (has been in 47 videos, including Black Moon Rising and was Sebastian in Blade Runner) but probably best know as to "us" as Duece in the B5 episode Grail, and to the rest as "Daryl and my brother Daryl".

Finally, after weeks long dry spell: Boobage! We have boobsign! But the point was that it's FULL of racism, even more than on an Imus show (sorry, I had to. :-> ) Ohhh, and brutality to minors. Very edgy.

Commentary has the writer ( Straw Weisman) and DP ( Lloyd Freidus) and someone from Blue Underground. They freely admit that they are playing the race card. They say that the director (Robert A. Endelson) because he's afraid to be associated with the ideas here. A 14 day shoot.

Interesting, but only for the hardcore who can seperate themselves from what they see (like most grindhouse flicks).

I'm working my way through the Briscoe discs and it is a very well made show. Good stories, love Briscoe, Soph and of course Dixie.
