Nightmare Worlds continued, Disc 6, Side A
Good Against Evil - 1977 (another TV Movie)

Richard Lynch! And here's a funny one, the writers here must not have done their homework. The pentagrams are all upside down (single point up instead of down). And there's Dan O'Herlihy, the Ol' Man from the RoboCop movies.

I hated this thing. Not because it sucked or anything. Here's my final note on this movie from the pad I take notes on while I watch.
"What?!? It ends like that? What was this, a pilot? Damnit!"

IMDB confirms that this is the case. But whoever wrote the summary is as confused as the writers. "ABC-TV pilot about a writer, Rambo, teaming up with an exorcist, O'Herlihy, to battle an exorcist, Lynch, and his group of Devil worshipers". Lynch wasn't an exorcist, he was a demon. Sheeesh!

Alien Zone - 1978

Oh man, the definition here is terrible! I have ripped 15 year old VHS tapes with higher fidelity than this. And the opening song sounds really familiar.

Now the whole thing seems familiar. Hey, wait a minute. This is House of the Dead, that I saw this year. No wonder the song seemed familiar. skipping

Disc 6, Side B
Fury of the Werewolf - 1972

Paul Naschy werewolf movies. I love 'em. Nuff said. Nothing new here, but who needs it.

Disc 6, Side B continued
House of the Living Dead - 1973 aka Curse of the Dead, from South Africa

This would make a good second feature with the Asphyx (aka The Horror of Death). Interesting little flick about capturing souls.

Disc 7, Side A
The Lost City - 1935

Broken into two parts, this is an old serial. And OMG, is it dull and dumb. And I like some old serials. But not this one.

The Lost World - 1925 (silent)

This was actually really enjoyable. Some pretty amazing stuff here. Due mainly to the efforts of (uncredited) Willis H. O'Brien, who would go on to do the original King Kong.

This Is Not A Test - 1962

Nuclear hysteria! Pretty funny stuff. These folks know absolutely NOTHING about the effects of nuclear weapons. (Those of you who know me know that I happen to actually know a thing or two about them, having spent 6 years on Boomer Submarines).

And MAN, is that ending DARK! I can't believe they got away with that in 1962. This sure wasn't the feel good movie of the summer.

Disc 8, Disc A
Menace From Outer Space - 1956

Richard Crane as Rocky Jones. Wasn't this a kids TV show? Yep, IMDB confirms. Kinda sad, really. Were people really this simple when I was born. Gads!

Disc 8, Side A continued
Marciste in Hell - 1926 (silent)

Framing! It's to the right and too low. And who is Grapevine Video that I keep seeing the watermark for? They use the word "television" here. In 1926? Well, I'll be damned. Wiki says that it was coined in 1904. It was first demonstrated the year this was made, so they were pretty up on their technology.

And this is an interesting movie too. Pretty sad that some of the best movies in this set are silent movies.

Disc 8, Side B
Mistress of Atlantis - 1932 (aka The Lost Atlantis)

Weird and hard to follow, but at least it's got sound. It's alluring, somehow. Maybe because it's so "foreign". Nice fictional world, thou. I bet David Lynch would really like this movie.

Disc 8, Side B, continued
Night Fright - 1968

Ladies and gentleman, the original wooden actor, the spiritual father of Nicholas Cage, John Agar! So, no credits, then? Oh, here they are. Eleven minutes in. Lots of weird things here that I don't know if it's because it's a cheap movie, or they did things differently back then. The coroner packs up the body and ships it to the morgue before the sheriff even gets to the crime scene. I'm thinking CSI wouldn't like that.

Crappy day for night work makes a great portion of this movie unintelligible. I have no idea what's happening. Can't see a damn thing.

It's hard to tell in the dark, but the monster appears to be Ro-Man's cousin, sans bell helmet.

Disc 9, Side A
How Awful About Allan - 1970 (another TV movie)

Anthony Perkins and Julie Harris in what is more of a thriller / whodunit than a SF or horror movie. Not my cup of tea. And ending was seen coming 45 minutes away.

Disc 9 Side A continued
Panic - 1976 (Italian)

I've seen this too, I think. But not sure. I LOL'd when after some frame drops, the word "STEREO" appeared in the corner of the screen. Flashback to bad VHS days.

And I have seen this. In the last 50 movie pack I watched, Chilling Classics.

Disc 9, Side B
The Phantom Creeps - 1939

This was a much longer serial, that I've seen a couple of pieces of in Mystery Science Theaters. So this is a condensation, but at least I'm seeing how it ends.

OMG, talk about using stock footage. That is the world famous known footage of the Hindenburg. How funny.

Disc 9 Side B, continued
Piranha - 1972 no, not the Joe Dante classic, that was 1978)

45 minutes in, no piranha. Just dull
One hour in, no fishies.

So, is the guy a piranha? Is that what this is about? This is terrible, and not in a fun way.

Finally, a corpse eaten by piranha at one hour, fifteen minutes, 15 minutes before the end. Gads, what a hurter. Funny that the first user comment on this in IMDB is "False Advertising". Amen, brother.
