Something Weird Video’s Double Bill of Dale Berry Sexploitation Flicks

Hip, Hot & 21 – 1967

This low budget hurter is a very odd mixture. I couldn’t figure out what it was trying to be for the longest time. First off, the soundtrack sounds like it was stolen from a James Bond movie. And then, you watch this thing, trying desperately, hopelessly, to figure out what the heck is going on.

Because make no mistake. This is an absolutely incomprehensible mess. I sat there wondering “What the F is going on?” I was never sure. About the only thing you are sure of is, this movie has more rapes in it than any other movie I’ve ever seen. And not those nice rapes from the sixties where they start to like it after awhile. Oh no, these are kicking and fighting the whole time rapes. Pretty disgusting.

Two beers out of five, and one is for all the nice natural boobage.

There are three long trailers (and by long, I mean over 4 minutes each), and three old multi-part nudie loops from the late 50’s and early 60’s. These are far funnier than erotic.

Hot Thrills and Warm Chills – 1967

Yeah, I didn’t think the title made a lick of sense either. And although this movie makes a little more sense, it’s still a mess. And it can’t decide where it actually is taking place. First it’s Reno, then it’s New Orleans (unless Reno has a French Quarter), then it’s Rio, then the footage is clearly the French Quarter of NO again.

Also, this movie had a scene that must be a trademark of the director. I didn’t think anything of it when Hip, Hot &21 had one, but when the second movie had a scene where you were sure they were having sex, and talking about it, and then the camera moves and they’re talking about and doing something else, I knew it had to be something the writer/director loved. The first movie had a scene with a thorn, and this one has a pie eating scene. Enduring these movies to see these scenes is almost worth it. The good news is that the thorn scene comes real early in Hip, Hot, &21, so you could quit then, and be ahead.

Two beers, for the same reasons as mentioned above. These were not SWV’s finest.
