Switchblade Sisters - 1975

Now we're talking! Thanks to friend of this blog Micah Prude, I moved this title from WAY lower in my wishlist and so enjoyed it last night. This is one of Quentin Tarantino's favorite movies. He worked to get this movie theatrically rereleased. And you can tell from the commentary that he does with director Jack Hill that he LOVES this movie. And I can see why.

This is classic exploitation. Its got all the elements. Nudity, violence, outlandish dialogue, all the goodies. If nothing else, you will laugh out loud at the fashions.

But Quentin's right, within the first hour, you are actually kinda into the characters, even the people who are obviously assholes. And the dialoge is hysterical. This is just fun stuff.

And the commentary is awesome. Quentin is running on and on about this flick, and you can tell that Jack Hill is almost embarressed by how much Quentin is gussing over it. Lots of good info about this movie, Quentin's movies, and the history of actresses.

The disc is full of good stuff too. Subtitles, a student film by Jack Hill that humorously enough, has an exact same line as the movie:

"Son, don't ever let them push you. 'Cause once they got you movin', its real hard to stop"

Equally interesting (at least to me, others will probably find this stupid), Hill says that he used that line in Pit Stop too. Guess he REALLY liked it. Hill is also humble enough to admit that some of the greatest dialogue in the movie was not his, but F.X. Maier's. Finally, just as icing on the cake, Hill even remakes about see The Fountainhead (from the Ayn Rand novel). Any movie that references Ayn Rand is alright in my book.

Four beers out of five. Thanx Micah!
