Terror Tales, Vol 2
Dr. Vampire – 1991
Ahhh, more Chinese horror comedy. A young doctor, on a trip to London, finally does “it”. Unfortunately, while doing “it” is bitten on the privates by a vampire at the house of ill repute. Now he slowing starts changing into a vampire as he returns to China. Meanwhile, “the Count”, who only feeds by feeding off his girls, discovers that our hero is quite tasty. So he sends his Chinese minion to find our doctor friend and bring him back. But even though she is undead, she has fallen in love with him (after all, he was a virgin, and a doctor, what’s not to love?). So she doesn’t try very hard to bring him back, and so the Count comes for him…
These things are just so WACKY! And the intentional humor is funny without being stupid (okay, so some of it doesn’t, but it’s better than Dumb and Dumber. But then again, a lobotomy is better than Dumb and Dumber).
Unfortunately, there is a serious shortcoming. The audio appears, at least on my system, seemed at times to be playing two different languages simultaneous. The subtitles are hardwired in (you cannot turn them off), but it sounded like both Cantonese and Japanese. Don’t know if supposed to be that way, or couldn’t help it, or what.
Two beers out of five (if the audio hadn’t been so messed up, it would have been three for general Chinese wackiness)
Death Kiss – 1974
Well, this is something you don’t see everyday. A Greek Giallo. And after watching it, I can see why. Acting is not the strong point here. The plot is about what you’d expect for a Giallo, with rapes, gore, and a twist at the end.
YAWN
No subs, no other features (on either side of this “flippy”. Good thing these discs are cheap.
Two beers out of five (saved from a one by some nice breasts)
