Let Sleeping Corpses Lie - 1974 (in IMDB as Don't Open the Window)

Wow! You know you're in for a treat when you have a Spanish directory with an Italian crew making a movie in and about England. Internationalism at its best. This zombie movie is unique in a number of ways, not the least of which is that at least they give a novel explanation for why the dead are getting up and walking/eating.

Traditionally, British horror movies are more about atmosphere than action. This movie, perhaps because its director is Spanish, has more action, and was actually pretty cool. The hippie hero was just the right blend of asshole and coolcat to please me, and he and the heroine didn't fall in love too quickly (I HATE that!). The zombies are too ugly and rotting, as only the recently dead (and newborns) are affected. The gut munching is pretty well done, for 1974.

The disc didn't have a lot of extras (no subs, BOOO!). There is an interesting interview with the director that DOES have subtitles (good thing, too, since he only speaks spanish). Great info there, and he's not so politically correct that he can't tell us the dirt on the actors. Good fun.

Three beers out of five.
